Mission Statement
The Luzerne County Asthma Coalition will promote, preserve and protect the health and quality of life for people living with asthma by educating the community about life long asthma control.

Goals/Objectives
Awareness/Education
Goal
To increase awareness of asthma's symptoms, impacts, treatments and self-management.

Objective
Increase by 10% the use of asthma action plans in Luzerne County schools by June 30th, 2008.

Objective
Provide a minimum of 4 school-based asthma education programs in Luzerne County by June 30th, 2008.

Environment/Workplace
Goal
To reduce environmental and occupational triggers of asthma in the workplace.

Objective
Increase by 25% the number of smoke-free restaurants in Luzerne County.

Objective
Utilize the Luzerne County Community College worksite action team to access statistics regarding exposure to workplace asthma triggers. (Emphasis on smoking)

Objective
To hold one public asthma forum focusing on environmental and asthma control by June 30th, 2008.

Provider
Goal
To increase healthcare provider use of evidence-based national asthma treatment guidelines.

Objective
Establish a quarterly newsletter to providers and schools.

Objective
Partner with insurance carriers to obtain data regarding physician use of national asthma treatment guidelines.

Objective
Increase number of providers who use appropriate daily controller medications and lung function testing.

Public Policy
Goal
To initiate and/or support public policy change that will improve asthma related health consequences.

Objective
Participate in World Asthma Day event in 2008.

Objective
Promote asthma awareness through at least one media event in 2008.

Objective
Collaborate with state asthma coalition and local health promotion groups in 2007-2008.

Objective
Promote awareness of School Inhaler Act to schools/public through education in 2007-2008.
